There’s a world of wonder out there and Center students are game to explore it.  Learn about our day trips, overnight trips and how our students discover our neighborhood as well as distant mountains and beaches.

Day Trips

Beginning in EC2, teachers want to provide their students with experiences outside of their classrooms.  Early Childhood students walk the neighborhood and clean up trash as they wear gloves and carry garbage bags.  They visit places such as pumpkin patches as well as Pierce Farm.  Elementary children take trips that extend their classroom studies.  Classes have taken the bus and metro to downtown LA to see Disney Hall, the library, and Olvera Street.  Other classrooms have visited Eaton Canyon, the Natural History Museum, CA missions, Shane's Inspiration-a playground for children with special needs, Heal the Bay, and many other places that our city has to offer.   In addition, the art specialists take every grade level on a yearly trip to view a current art exhibit at various galleries throughout Los Angeles.

Overnight Trips

Overnight trips begin in the 4th grade.  Our 4th graders have a three day, two night environmental experience directed by W.O.L.F. (Wilderness Outdoor Leadership Foundation) at the site of Camp Hess Kramer in Malibu.  As an extension of our science curriculum, they hike, explore the night sky through telescopes, and study the local ecosystem.

Fifth graders also have a three day, two night environmental experience at Pali Camp, located in the San Bernadino mountains.  They have classes in forest ecology, aerodynamics, weather predictions and freshwater biology.

Our sixth graders return to the Camp Hess Kramer site in Malibu for two days and one night where they experience teambuilding activities as well as a low ropes and a challenging high ropes course.  They return having learned much about themselves as they have met challenges that surprise even themselves.
